Yes, it has beautiful sandy beaches, great golf courses and upscale shopping along 5th Avenue South but there is so much more to Naples.
It is a haven for nature and wildlife enthusiasts as well. With attractions like the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and Naples Botanical Garden, you can immerse yourself in the area’s stunning natural beauty and diverse ecosystems.
The city also offers a vibrant cultural scene, with the Gulfshore Playhouse, The Baker Museum, and numerous art galleries showcasing both local and international talent.
Families will find plenty to do in Naples. The Naples Zoo and the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples are great attractions for all ages. Additionally, events like Cars on 5th and the Naples International Film Festival add to the city’s allure. There is always something exciting happening in Naples.

The Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, located just 30 minutes northeast of Naples, is a nature lover’s dream. This 13,000-acre wilderness is perfect for birdwatchers, hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts.
As you explore the sanctuary’s 2.25-mile boardwalk, you’ll encounter a lush and diverse ecosystem. Ancient bald cypress trees, wading birds, alligators, and colorful flora are just some of the sights you can enjoy. Keep an eye out for Red-Shouldered Hawks and the elusive Painted Buntings, which are common in the area.
Open year-round from 8am to 3pm, with the last admission at 1pm, it takes approximately 2 hours to walk the boardwalk. During the peak season from November through April, it’s recommended to purchase tickets in advance online. Wheelchairs are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t forget to bring water bottles to stay hydrated as you enjoy this natural haven.

One of my favorite places to visit is the Palm Cottage. This charming home, built in 1895, holds the distinction of being the oldest house in Naples and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located just a block from Naples Pier and Third Street South, it offers a glimpse into the area’s rich past.
Docent-led tours of the historic house are available from Tuesday through Saturday, between 12 pm and 4 pm. Having taken the tour, I can attest to its wealth of information and the fascinating historical insights it provides about Naples.
Additionally, the Naples Historical Society offers a 90-minute walking tour of the Naples Historic District every Wednesday at 9:30 am. Advanced reservations are required for this tour.

If you’re a car enthusiast or just curious about automotive history, the Revs Institute in Naples, Florida, is a must-visit, rain or shine. After many years in the area, I finally made my way to this remarkable museum and was thoroughly impressed by its collection—even as someone who doesn’t typically follow the world of cars.
Home to over 120 vehicles from the Miles Collier collection, the Revs Institute showcases a wide range of cars. Most are in working order, with only a couple of exceptions. The museum offers an extensive exploration of automotive history.
It highlights the societal changes brought about by these machines. The collection features a stunning array of vehicles, from timeless vintage models to legendary race cars. Each car has been meticulously preserved. The institute also offers a unique perspective on the technological innovations that have driven the industry forward.
To make the most of your visit, I recommend opting for a docent-led tour. Be sure to book your visit in advance and allocate at least three hours to fully appreciate everything this extraordinary museum has to offer. This is a place worth visiting while in Naples Florida!

Another option is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which is 90 minutes east of Naples. Depending on your departure location, FLL might offer more direct flight options. From FLL, you’ll need to rent a car and drive across Alligator Alley (I-75).
